Industrialist Sunjay Kapur, chairman and non-executive director of Sona Comstar and former husband of actor Karisma Kapoor, died suddenly on June 12, 2025, in England. He was 53.
His death took place while he was playing polo, a sport he was closely associated with. Early reports raised questions about what caused his sudden collapse during the match.
Initial accounts suggested he may have suffered a cardiac arrest on the field. At the same time, there were also claims that anaphylactic shock could have been a possible cause, including speculation linked to a bee sting.
The incident quickly led to public discussion and uncertainty, with different versions of what may have happened being reported in the days after his death.
Sunjay Kapur’s company, Sona Comstar, later issued an official statement confirming that he had died after a sudden heart attack in England. This was one of the earliest formal confirmations of his passing.
His mother also raised concerns at the time, hinting at a "transnational conspiracy" behind his death. These remarks added further attention and speculation around the circumstances.
However, British medical authorities later reviewed the case and confirmed in August that Sunjay Kapur died of natural causes.
Priya Sachdeva Kapur, his wife, marked the first anniversary of his death with an emotional message on social media. She wrote, "A year without you. Still the first thought in the morning and the last thought at night."
Sunjay Kapur and Priya Sachdeva Kapur have a son together, Azarias Kapur. Priya also co-parented her daughter, Safira, from her previous marriage to Vikram Chatwal.
After his death, a major legal dispute emerged over his estate, estimated at around $3.6 billion. The dispute involves Priya Sachdeva Kapur and Sunjay Kapur’s children from his marriage to Karisma Kapoor, Samaira Kapoor and Kiaan Kapoor.
The Delhi High Court has ordered that his assets be preserved during the ongoing case. It also restrained the sale of assets and restricted access to bank accounts linked to the estate.
The court said Priya Kapur must address concerns over the authenticity of the will and noted that Samaira and Kiaan had established a prima facie case.
They have accused Priya Sachdeva Kapur of forging the will and not fully disclosing assets, while the legal process continues.
Despite speculation and early conflicting reports, official findings later confirmed the death as natural, even as questions and disputes around his estate remain ongoing.
