Shrugging off criticism
Asked by Vogue Germany whether some of her dresses might be “too sexy” or reveal too much, Dakota Johnson gave a blunt response: “I really don’t care. I’ve been able to wear some of the most beautiful dresses, and I feel beautiful in them, so I wear them.”
She added that while not every dress works perfectly depending on the fit, color, and finish, she chooses what she feels confident in. “If I find a beautiful dress that I feel comfortable in, of course I want to wear it! And it’s fun to wear a sexy dress,” she said.
Lessons in body confidence
Johnson credits her mother, Melanie Griffith, for fostering a strong body image from a young age.
“She taught us how to take care of our bodies and love them, and that our bodies are beautiful,” Dakota said.
She explained that learning self-love early is crucial because society constantly tells young women they’re “not good enough.”
Style and statement
Over the years, Dakota has worn bold red carpet looks, including Gucci gowns and fitted lace dresses, often with minimal layering underneath.
Her choices may spark debate, but for Dakota, fashion is about self-expression, feeling beautiful, and enjoying the moment, rather than conforming to others’ expectations.
Owning the narrative
Through her candid remarks, Dakota Johnson has made it clear that her style decisions are personal, unapologetic, and rooted in confidence, not controversy.
