VETERAN Indian actor Vipin Sharma is reuniting with actor-director Dev Patel for The Peasant, Patel’s second feature as a director after Monkey Man. The upcoming film, backed by A24, marks another collaboration between the two after their successful work on the 2024 action thriller.
Sharma, whose credits include Bollywood films like Taare Zameen Par, Gangs of Wasseypur, and Maharani, played Alpha, the respected leader of a local transgender and gender-nonconforming community, in Monkey Man. His performance earned praise, and he is now joining Patel once again for the new revenge drama.
Sharma said, “Monkey Man was a special chapter, and working with Dev Patel was creatively very rewarding. To now be a part of The Peasant, with Dev once again building such an ambitious world as a filmmaker, feels very meaningful. My relationship with him has gone beyond that of director and actor. We have become a family.”
Sharma also shared his excitement about expanding his work internationally while continuing to take on projects in India.
“What makes this phase exciting is that while I have continued to do a lot of work in India, interesting international projects are also opening up for me. The Peasant and The Big Fix are very different films, but both come with strong directors, strong creative worlds, and teams that make you want to push yourself further as an actor,” he said.
In addition to The Peasant, Sharma is set to appear in Netflix’s upcoming US project, The Big Fix, further strengthening his growing presence in international productions.
The Peasant also stars Christian Friedel, Sebastian Bull, Saurabh Sachdeva, and Anasuya Sengupta. The film follows a humble shepherd who launches a violent quest for revenge after mercenary knights destroy his village. Details about Sharma’s role have not yet been revealed.
The film marks Patel’s second outing behind the camera following the critical success of Monkey Man.
