The International cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday (15) faced flak from Indian fans after briefly promoting India as the world's No.1 Test team in the longest format, thanks to a technical glitch on its official team-ranking page.
The error saw India becoming the top team in all three formats of the game at the same time.
However, hours later, the Asian powerhouse later returned to the second spot behind Australia who they recently hammered in the first Test of the four-match series in Nagpur by an innings and 132 runs to take 1-0 lead.
The ICC's Test rankings change only after the conclusion of every series and the winner of the current Border-Gavaskar Trophy series is still not known.
The gaffe did not impress India's millions of cricket fans who expressed their ire on social media saying it was not the first time that the cricket's international governing body made such a blunder.
The last time the ICC Test rankings saw an update was after the third Test match between Australia and South Africa Down Under. Australia extended their lead in the rankings with 126 rating points. India's last Test series was against Bangladesh which they won 2-0 to improve their standings in the rankings by two places. India are currently ranked second in the Test rankings with 115 ratings points and are in the contest to make the final of the World Test Championship final to be held later this year.
