Indian designer Gaurav Gupta is once again commanding global attention, this time for crafting striking custom couture worn by Lady Gaga and Doechii in the “Runway” music video tied to The Devil Wears Prada 2. The film features a star-studded cast including Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Simone Ashley.

The avant-garde video, released this week, has gained traction online for its dramatic silhouettes and theatrical aesthetic. Gupta shared on Instagram that he designed two sculptural bodysuits that embody his signature futuristic style. Lady Gaga, known for “Always Remember Us This Way,” appears in a pearl-toned, corseted ensemble intricately embellished with crystals and pearls. The design creates the illusion of a glowing second skin, shimmering under light while maintaining a structured, commanding silhouette.

The feature underscores a larger movement: Indian fashion’s growing global visibility. From Rihanna wearing jewelry by Sabyasachi Mukherjee and Manish Malhotra to increasing adoption by influential global figures, Indian designers are shaping international style narratives. Gupta’s collaboration with Gaga and Doechii marks another milestone in this evolution.

The anticipation surrounding The Devil Wears Prada 2 continues to build, and the “Runway” video offers a preview of its bold fashion direction. Gupta’s creations sit at the center of this vision, garments that blur the boundary between couture and armor. Embellished with crystals, pearls, spikes, and metal studs, the bodysuits transform the human form rather than simply dressing it.

Lady Gaga’s look channels a luminous, almost ethereal quality. Her pearl-toned bodysuit is fully embellished and corseted, radiating understated opulence while maintaining a sculptural edge. In contrast, Doechii’s outfit leans into a darker, more intense aesthetic. Her black corseted bodysuit features spikes and metal studs layered over sequins and crystals, producing a sharp, reflective surface that feels bold and confrontational.

Gupta revealed that both ensembles were conceived as single-piece silhouettes with integrated face coverings. Extending seamlessly from head to toe, the designs merge garment, mask, and body into a unified form. This approach challenges conventional ideas of identity, making it fluid and obscured.

Behind the visual spectacle is a remarkable level of craftsmanship. Each piece required approximately 800 hours of detailed handwork by skilled artisans. The bodysuits incorporate more than 3,000 crystals, creating textured, multidimensional surfaces that shift dynamically with movement. These designs are not merely decorative; they are immersive constructions that draw attention to their intricate detailing.

Styling played a key role in bringing the looks to life. Chloe Delgadillo and Chenelle Delgadillo styled lady Gaga’s ensemble, while Sam Woolf styled Doechii’s look. Each styling choice enhanced the garments' narrative, emphasizing their distinct visual identities.
