The long-running feud between Hrithik Roshan and Kangana Ranaut has once again become a major topic on social media after a fresh controversy reignited public interest in their years-old legal battle. This time, the renewed attention did not begin with either actor directly. Instead, it followed Kangana's comments about Gen Z during a debate over student protests.
Kangana faced criticism after referring to Gen Z as a "gutter generation." Her remarks quickly spread across social media, drawing responses from political figures, influencers, and internet users. Among those who reacted was Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurav Das, whose comments unexpectedly brought Hrithik back into the conversation.
Das joked that Kangana might be targeting him because his friends believe he resembles a younger Hrithik Roshan. His remark quickly went viral, triggering the social media trend "We need to apologise to Hrithik Roshan," with many users revisiting the actors' widely publicized dispute from 2016.
Hrithik responds to the 'Sorry Hrithik' trend
As the online trend gained momentum, influencer Freddy Birdy posted that: "The world owes Hrithik Roshan an apology."
Hrithik, who has largely stayed away from publicly discussing the controversy in recent years, chose to respond. Instead of embracing the growing support, he urged people to avoid taking sides without considering the facts.
He wrote: "Siding with ‘A’ just because you don’t like ‘B’ anymore is a small part of the larger systemic issue plaguing our society. I’ll wait for when the context is the right one and motivated by facts."
His response was widely shared online, with many interpreting it as a reminder that public opinion should not replace evidence.
The latest debate also revived memories of the actors' highly publicized legal battle that began in 2016 after Kangana claimed the two had been in a relationship. Hrithik denied the claim, and the disagreement escalated into legal complaints, including allegations of stalking, harassment, and defamation.
During the investigation, Hrithik reportedly submitted his passport and electronic devices as evidence, while Kangana said she could not provide her laptop and iPad because they had suffered water damage. In 2021, investigators filed a Nil report after finding insufficient evidence to proceed.
Kangana fires back on Instagram
Hrithik's comment did not end the discussion. Kangana responded through her Instagram Stories, where she addressed both the actor and his partner, Saba Azad.
She wrote: "I am happy that you have found your perfect match, Saba Azad… you are in a committed relationship and it doesn’t suit you to tease a woman like this… stop adding fuel to fire and embarrassing your partner."
Her response quickly became another talking point online, adding fresh fuel to an already heated debate.
The exchange has once again divided social media. Some users believe the renewed attention is correcting public perceptions of the 2016 controversy, while others argue that revisiting the dispute through viral trends oversimplifies a complicated legal and personal conflict.
For Hrithik, however, the focus remains unchanged. Rather than celebrating the online support, he has made it clear that he wants the conversation to be guided by facts instead of shifting public opinion.
With both actors once again making headlines, a feud that has lasted nearly a decade has returned to the center of public discussion, proving that even years later, one viral trend can reopen one of Bollywood's most closely watched controversies.
