INDIAN women's hockey team retained the Asian Champions Trophy title with a narrow 1-0 win over Olympic silver medallist China in a pulsating final in Rajgir, Bihar on Wednesday.
Young striker Deepika scored the winner for India from a penalty corner in the 31st minute to finish as the tournament's highest goal getter with 11 strikes.
India had earlier stunned China 3-0 in the league stages of the tournament.
It was India's third ACT title after winning the top honours in 2016 and 2023.
China, on the other hand, will have to settle for their third runner-up finish.
Japan finished third on the podium after defeating Malaysia 4-1 in the third-fourth place classification match earlier in the day. (PTI)

Highlight:The first Ballon d'Or 2026 shortlists have been announced, covering Men's and Women's Club of the Year, Coach of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year.
Real Madrid, one of European football's most decorated clubs, are absent from the five-team Men's Club of the Year shortlist entirely.
The main individual Ballon d'Or shortlists, 30 men and 30 women competing for the actual trophy, haven't been released yet, with the winners crowned at a ceremony in London on 26 October.
Ballon d'Or season has begun, but not with the list most fans were waiting for. France Football has started rolling out its 2026 nominees category by category, starting with the club and specialist awards rather than the marquee individual shortlist. The early reveals still managed to produce the day's biggest talking point anyway: one of the game's most successful clubs isn't on the list at all.
Who's actually up for Club of the Year?Five clubs each, across the men's and women's awards. On the men's side, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Bodø/Glimt, Flamengo and Paris Saint-Germain make up the shortlist, with PSG defending the title they won last year after their first Champions League triumph. Bodø/Glimt's inclusion is the standout story here, a Norwegian club reaching the Champions League last 16 is exactly the kind of run this award was built to recognise. On the women's side, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Club América, Manchester City and OL Lyonnes were named, with Barcelona among the favourites after winning the UEFA Women's Champions League.

Highlights: Novak Djokovic lost in the first round of the US Open for the first time since the 2006 Australian Open. 
 The four-time US Open champion was beaten 7-5, 5-7, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 by Argentina’s Mariano Navone. 
 Djokovic vomited at least five times, used an inhaler and received medical treatment during the match. 
 The 39-year-old said he had “pretty much despised every moment” he spent on court because of his physical condition. 
 Djokovic’s next tournament commitment could be the Australian Open, fitness allowing.
Novak Djokovic’s latest US Open campaign ended in painful and emotional fashion Monday after the four-time champion was defeated by Argentina’s Mariano Navone in the opening round.
Djokovic, 39, battled through more than four and a half hours at Arthur Ashe Stadium despite vomiting repeatedly, suffering cramps and struggling with pain in his back, hip and shoulder. His 7-5, 5-7, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 loss marked his first opening-round defeat at a Grand Slam in 20 years.
