  • Bollywood veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan has hit back at a media outlet for allegedly twisting his words and misrepresenting a religious message dedicated to Lord Krishna. The veteran actor, who usually maintains a measured tone on social media, expressed his anger over the coverage, accusing the publication of disrespecting a religious invocation and presenting it as a challenge to his opponents.

The controversy began with a post Bachchan shared on Thursday (29), in which he invoked Lord Krishna through a popular devotional chant.

The actor had written: "Go bring your elephants, we will also... Haathi ghoda palki, Jai Kanhaiya Lal ki."

However, a media outlet reportedly interpreted the statement as Bachchan challenging his opponents, suggesting that he was asking them to bring their elephants and horses.

The 84-year-old actor was quick to object to the interpretation, explaining that his words were not intended as a threat or a challenge but were part of a traditional prayer dedicated to Lord Krishna.

What did Amitabh Bachchan actually mean by his statement?

In his response, Bachchan explained that "Haathi ghoda palki, Jai Kanhaiya Lal ki" is a familiar devotional chant associated with celebrations of Lord Krishna's birth.

He accused the publication of taking the words out of their religious context and using them for publicity.

"For Krishna Kanhaiya, in the form of prayer, it's often chanted -'Haathi ghoda palki, Jai Kanhaiya Lal ki ' And the media, by disrespecting it, prints it for their own publicity...," he wrote in Hindi.

The actor described the coverage as a "grave insult" to the religious invocation and alleged that the publication had deliberately distorted his words.

His anger became even more apparent when he addressed the media outlet directly, drawing attention to his enormous social media following.

'50 million followers are waiting for my signal,' warns Bachchan

In a strongly worded post, Bachchan reminded the publication that he has a massive digital audience and suggested that even a fraction of his followers could respond to what he considered misrepresentation.

"Listen up, media folks, with your ears wide open... There is a 50 million-strong follower base, media folks. The day I give the signal, just 10 per cent of them are ready and waiting to strike..."

He further warned that repeated attempts to twist his words would invite an even stronger response from his followers, whom he affectionately calls his extended family or 'Ef'.

"The more you twist my words and condemn them, the 100 times greater capacity the Ef has lying in wait to do the same. ... It's just a matter of them speaking up," he added on X.

Sharing the headline that had upset him, the actor questioned how the publication had interpreted his religious message.

"Look what the media prints. Did you see the insult to the religion," he wrote.

Bachchan also criticised what he described as a lack of accountability in media reporting, saying mistakes should be acknowledged and corrected.

"Nothing could be more laughable than this... If we make a mistake-mistakes happen-we immediately apologise and try to make amends... But here it seems like this is their birthright...," he added.

Amitabh Bachchan continues to maintain a close connection with fans

The actor remains one of Bollywood's most active celebrities on social media. He regularly shares personal reflections, memories from his film career, greetings and updates about his daily routine on his blog and social media accounts.

Bachchan has around 44.7 million followers on X and 36.2 million on Instagram, while he frequently refers to his wider audience as his extended family.

He also continues his popular Sunday tradition of greeting fans gathered outside his Mumbai residence, Jalsa.

However, his latest appearance came with additional security. Following an October 23 email threatening bomb attacks at his residence and the Mumbai venue of singer Diljit Dosanjh's concert, Bachchan greeted fans from behind bulletproof glass on Sunday.

According to police, the email also threatened a grenade attack on a school on October 31 and identified Bachchan's Juhu residence as a potential target between October 31 and November 27.

While the actor continues to connect with fans despite the security concerns, his latest social media outburst has brought attention to the importance of reporting religious expressions in their proper context.
