India finance minister reaches J&K to launch welfare schemes

INDIAN finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday (23) reached Jammu as part of an outreach programme and is set to launch several new schemes.

On her arrival, she met several entrepreneurs and self-help groups who have gained under various schemes and the Narendra Modi government’s industrial policy.

On Monday (22), Sitharaman reached Srinagar, the summer capital of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir where she inaugurated development projects related to health, education, urban infrastructure and disaster management worth Rs 130.5 crore, Asian News International reported.

The Indian finance ministry said Sitharaman also laid the foundation stone for union territory-level emergency operation centre and SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) control building at Budgam, Kashmir, amounting to Rs 34.88 crore — under the Jhelum and Tawi Flood Recovery Project during her visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
