A WOMAN medical student, who was India’s first Covid-19 patient, has tested positive again after a year-and-half though there have been no reports of her having symptoms. The woman from Thrissur in the southern Indian state of Kerala, who was studying in Wuhan in China, was infected with the Sars-CoV-2 virus in the early days of the pandemic in 2020.

According to health sources, the woman took the Covid-19 test as she wanted to fly to Delhi. But when her rest result was found to be positive, many were left surprised. Authorities reportedly added that the woman was yet to take her first vaccine jab but some reports said she has taken one shot. None of her family members appeared to have been infected by the vaccine.

The authorities also said there was nothing to worry about the woman’s health as of now. She has not returned to Wuhan after returning home and has been continuing her classes online.

India reported more than 31,000 cases in the last 24 hours along with a little over 2,000 deaths, the Union health and family welfare ministry said on Tuesday (13).

The first death in the country due to the pandemic was reported in March 2020.

The Kerala was also seeing a rise in Covid-19 infection rates. On Wednesday, it reported a total of 15,637 fresh cases, the highest in recent times. The state also saw 128 deaths, which took the toll to nearly 15,000. The Covid-19 positivity rate in the state also rose to 10.03 and coupled with the Zika virus outbreak in which more than 20 people reportedly died, the situation in the state has left the authorities worried.
