VIRAT KOHLI reached his 71st ODI fifty in Sunday’s (12) World Cup clash against the Netherlands but was unable to push on for an all-time record 50th century in the format.
Kohli surpassed South Africa’s Quinton de Kock (591) as the leading batsman of the 2023 tournament with 594 runs before left-arm spinner Roelof van der Merwe bowled the star batsman for 51.
The Bengaluru crowd went silent after anticipating Kohli’s 50th ODI ton after he equalled Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 in the team’s previous win over South Africa.
India, who have eight wins out of eight matches at the World Cup, will face New Zealand in the first semi-final at Mumbai on Wednesday (15).

Nike is cutting costs, reshaping its business and preparing for another round of job losses. But the bigger problem facing the world's best-known sportswear brand is harder to fix: getting consumers excited about Nike again.
The company reported fiscal first-quarter revenue of $11.2 billion, down 4 per cent from a year earlier, while net income slipped 2 per cent to $712 million. Nike said declines in Greater China and parts of its international business outweighed growth in North America. Its direct business was also under pressure, with Nike Brand digital revenue falling 13 per cent during the quarter.

India posted 169/7 on the back of Ishan Kishan's unbeaten 80, then bowled Sri Lanka out for just 45 to win by 124 runs
That 124-run margin is the biggest winning margin ever recorded in a men's T20I semifinal or final, beating India's own 96-run win in the 2026 T20 World Cup final
Sri Lanka's 45 is also the joint-lowest total ever by a Test-playing nation in T20Is, level with West Indies' 45 against England in 2019
Since Kohli and Rohit have already retired from T20Is, Bumrah's 13-country record now stands unchallenged by either of them
The win sends India into the Asian Games final to face Pakistan for gold
India's cricket team didn't just win their Asian Games semifinal on Thursday — they buried Sri Lanka under a scoreline that barely looked like a contest. And somewhere in the middle of that demolition, Jasprit Bumrah quietly walked past two of Indian cricket's biggest names without needing to bowl a single ball to do it.
The moment Bumrah stepped onto the field at Kōrogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Aichi-Nagoya, he became the first Indian cricketer to play T20I cricket in 13 different countries. Japan was the new addition to a list that already included Australia, Bangladesh, England, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, the UAE, the USA, the West Indies, and Zimbabwe — on top of India itself.

On Tuesday in Aichi-Nagoya, 26-year-old Neeru Dhanda became the first Indian woman to win an Asian Games gold in the individual trap event, giving India its fifth gold of the Games. But it wasn't the medal count that stayed with anyone who watched her speak afterward — it was what she said she wanted to do with it.
"I dedicate this medal to my mother, to my coach, and to the entire country of India," Dhanda said, moments after the win sank in. "I want to put this medal around my mother's neck and my coach's neck. I am very excited about that."
