Modi meets Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez in Rome

INDIAN prime minister Narendra Modi and his Spanish counterpart Pedro Sanchez on Sunday (31) held talks on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rome and discussed ways on deepening ties between the two countries.

In a tweet, the Indian prime minister’s office (PMO) said the two countries are extensively cooperating in areas such as trade, energy, innovation and more.

“In Rome, PM @narendramodi met the Prime Minister of Spain, Mr. @sanchezcastejon. Both leaders had fruitful talks on ways to deepen ties between India and Spain. The two nations are cooperating extensively in areas such as trade, energy, innovation and more,” the PMO tweeted.

Modi, who reached Rome on Friday (29) for the two-day summit, has taken part in several bilateral meetings on the sidelines. On Saturday (30), he met French president Emmanuel Macron and Singaporean premier Lee Hsien Loong.

Modi calls on Pope Francis in Vatican

On Sunday, the second day of the summit, the proceedings kicked off with a walk of the heads of delegation in one of the symbolic places of the historic downtown: Trevi Fountain.

Modi thereafter attended the session on climate change and environment. The G20 heads of delegation gathered at the Convention Center La Nuvola for a side event and two working sessions.

The Indian prime minister was expected to hold talks with outgoing German chancellor Angela Merkel.

The G20 Summit would conclude with the traditional final press conference by Italian prime minister Mario Draghi who, while flagging off the meeting yesterday, highlighted that “multilateralism is the best answer to the problems we face today”.
