It seems the controversy surrounding the ‘Besharam Rang’ song from upcoming Hindi film ‘Pathaan’ featuring ace Indian actors Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone is not ending anytime soon.

While complaints are being lodged against the song which many feel is vulgar and threats are being issued every day, a seer from Ayodhya in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has come with a life threat to Khan.

Paramhans Acharya said he would burn Khan, 57, alive if he ever got to meet him.

A video of his deadly threat has also gone viral on social media.

“Today we burnt his posters. The movie Pathhan has insulted the saffron colour. If I find jihadi Shah Rukh Khan anywhere, I will burn him alive,” he said.

Acharya is not new to controversies. In October 2021, he had threatened to take ‘Jal Samadhi’ (water immersion) in Ayodhya’s Sarayu River if the Narendra Modi government did not declare India as a ‘Hindu Rashtra’ (Hindu nation) by October 2. Leter, he withdrew his ‘Jal Samadhi’ plan and threatened to hold ‘Amaran Anshan’ (fast unto death) at the Ramlila Maidan in Delhi.

Mahant Raju Das, a priest of Hanuman Garhi Temple in Ayodhya, also slammed the film and asked people to burn down theatres where ‘Pathaan’ will be released.

“Bollywood and Hollywood always attempt to make fun of the Sanatan religion. The way saffron has been used by Deepika Padukone as a bikini is hurtful to us. What was the necessity to wear saffron as bikini? I appeal to people to boycott the movie. Burn down the theatres where the movie will be screened because otherwise they will not understand. You have to be evil to counter evil,” he was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Several complaints have also been filed against the ‘Besharam Rang song’ alleging that Padukone’s saffron bikini hurt Hindu sentiments.

The row has also created a political divide as a number of mainstream leaders of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, including Madhya Pradesh home minister Narottam Mishra, sought action against it.

Opposition parties such as the Indian National Congress, Trinamool Congress and others termed this debate baseless. Bhupesh Baghel, the chief minister of the Congress-ruled state of Chhattisgarh, hit out at the Hindu right-wing Bajrang Dal saying they “extort” wearing saffron.

“There is a difference between wearing clothes (of certain colours) and embracing (thoughts associated with them). Saints and sadhus embrace (the colour saffron) after leaving their families and society (renouncing material world). Saffron is the colour of flames of fire and signifies sacrifice,” Baghel said.

Meanwhile, Khan called ‘Pathaan’ a very patriotic film during a social media interaction.

Without making any mention about the controversy, he said at an international film festival in Kolkata recently how negativity increases social media consumption.

Padukone, on the other hand, was seen unveiling in Qatar the FIFA World Cup trophy on the day of the final on Sunday (18) and was trolled for her costume yet again.
