Sanskrit scholar Bhadreshdas Swami honored as 'World Teacher of Vedantic Wisdom' in New Delhi

Sanskrit scholar and Vedanta philosopher Bhadreshdas Swami has received a major academic honor from the Central Sanskrit University in recognition of his contributions to Sanskrit scholarship, Vedantic philosophy and the preservation of India’s intellectual traditions.

The university conferred on him the title Vedantavidya-Vishwaguru, which can be translated as “world teacher of Vedantic wisdom.” The honor was presented during a ceremony at BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham in New Delhi on August 9.

The event brought together religious leaders, university officials and scholars from across India to recognize Swami’s work in Sanskrit studies and Vedanta.

Recognition for Sanskrit and Vedanta scholarship

Speakers at the ceremony highlighted Bhadreshdas Swami’s decades-long contribution to Sanskrit literature and Vedantic thought. His research and writings have sought to make classical Sanskrit philosophy more accessible to contemporary readers while preserving traditional approaches to Indian philosophical study.

Swami dedicated the honor to Lord Swaminarayan and to his spiritual teachers, Pramukh Swami Maharaj and Mahant Swami Maharaj.

Bhadreshdas Swami is best known for his work on Vedanta and Sanskrit commentary. His writings include the Swaminarayan Bhashyam, a multi-volume Sanskrit commentary on major Hindu philosophical texts, including the Upanishads, Brahma Sutras and Bhagavad Gita.

He also authored Swaminarayana Siddhanta Sudha, which explains the Akshar-Purushottam philosophy associated with the Swaminarayan tradition.
