Indian Ambassador to the United States Vinay Mohan Kwatra met with US Under Secretary of Defense Elbridge Colby at the Pentagon on Friday (26) to discuss advancing the strategic partnership between Washington and New Delhi, with a particular focus on defense cooperation.
The meeting centered on expanding military ties and implementing key initiatives under the two countries' growing defense relationship. Officials discussed ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral defense cooperation and enhance collaboration between their respective defense industries.
Following the meeting, Kwatra highlighted the importance of continued engagement between the two governments.
“A good conversation with Undersecretary Elbridge Colby at the Pentagon. Appreciate his steadfast support in advancing the India-US strategic partnership,” Kwatra said in a post on X on Friday (26).
He also emphasized the shared commitment to building on existing agreements between the two nations.
“Look forward to continuing our engagements to implement the bilateral defence and defence industrial cooperation agenda,” Kwatra said.
The discussions come as the United States and India continue to deepen security cooperation amid evolving geopolitical challenges in the Indo-Pacific region. Defense ties have become a central pillar of the broader US-India strategic relationship, with both countries increasing military coordination, technology collaboration, and joint exercises in recent years.
A major milestone in that relationship came in October of last year, when India and the United States signed a 10-year defense cooperation agreement. The long-term pact is designed to expand joint operational coordination, improve intelligence sharing across space and cyberspace, and strengthen defense-industrial cooperation between the two countries.
The latest meeting at the Pentagon signals continued momentum in implementing the agreement and reflects the shared commitment of Washington and New Delhi to enhancing defense capabilities, regional security, and long-term strategic cooperation.
