Retired cop B K Sinha to be India Olympic contingent press attache

THE Indian Olympic Association on Friday (16) announced retired Indian Police Service officer B K Sinha will carry out the dual role of security and press attache of the Indian Olympic contingent at the Tokyo Games starting July 23.

A former director general of police in the northern Indian state of Haryana, Sinha has also been a recipient of the President’s Police Medal.

“Mr B K Sinha (Retd DG Police, IPS) who is going with Indian contingent for Tokyo Olympics as Security Attache, will now, along with handling the responsibilities of security attache, will also be handling the responsibilities of press attache,” IOA president Narinder Batra and secretary general Rajeev Mehta said in a joint statement.
“Mr B K Sinha will be departing from Delhi for Tokyo on 22nd July, 2021,” they added.

India will be represented at Tokyo by a 228-strong contingent which includes 119 athletes. The Olympics, which have already been delayed by a year because of the pandemic, will be held under strict health protocols sans spectators because of the health disaster.

The first batch of athletes from India will depart from New Delhi for the Japanese capital on Saturday (17). The sailing team has already reached Tokyo after their training in Europe. The boxers and the only weightlifter in fray Mirabai Chanu will land in Tokyo on Sunday from their respective training bases in Italy and the United States.
