Yo Yo Honey Singh has run out of room on the calendar. Maharashtra Cyber has sent the rapper a fresh summons, asking him to appear before the agency on Friday, October 16, in connection with a complaint about remarks he allegedly made at a Delhi concert.
According to a Maharashtra Nodal Cyber Police officer quoted by Hindustan Times, the agency had first called him in on October 5. He didn't turn up and asked for more time. Other reports, citing NDTV and IANS, say he has now missed three summons in total and has given his stay abroad as the reason. Because outlets count the notices differently, the exact number isn't settled, though they agree on the new date.
What the case is about
The complaint traces back to a video clip from the concert that spread across social media. In it, Singh appears to make an indecent reference to having sex in cars in cold weather. Many users criticized the remark, a complaint followed, and the cyber police registered a case. The police haven't publicly said which sections the case is registered under, so it's too early to say what charges, if any, could follow.
What could happen if he skips again
Officials have been direct about the next step. A senior Cyber Cell official said the process of issuing a look out circular, a notice used to monitor a person's movement across borders, could begin if Singh doesn't appear this time. The Hindustan Times report adds that repeated failures to appear could also lead the agency to approach a court.
None of that has happened yet. For now, October 16 is simply the next date on the file.
Singh's side of it
After the backlash, Singh posted a video apology. He said the clip had been edited in a way that offended people, and that he was trying to speak to a young crowd in a language they would relate to, with a message about safe sex. In one line reported by Gulf News, he said he apologized for being "out of line." Critics weren't convinced, arguing that the explanation sidestepped the question of accountability at a show with a mixed-age audience.
Not his first run-in
Honey Singh has been at the center of controversy before. Punjab Police booked him and producer Bhushan Kumar over the lyrics of his song Makhna in 2020 after the Punjab State Women Commission pushed for action, and the Punjab and Haryana High Court made sharp remarks about the content of his music at the time. He has also rebuilt his career in recent years, including a Netflix documentary, Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous, in December 2024.
Maharashtra Cyber has handled similar summons before. In the India's Got Latent case in 2025, it called in dozens of people, and several approached the agency through lawyers seeking more time before eventually recording statements.
Whether Singh appears on Friday, sends a lawyer or asks for more time again is the question to watch.
