US ENTREPRENUER and the world’s richest man Elon Musk on Friday (18) praised Vivek Ramaswamy, an Indian-American politician from the Conservative Party running for the presidential post in next year’s election, calling his candidature “promising”.

In a post on X, formerly called Twitter which is owned by Musk himself, he reposted an interview that the presidential hopeful gave to former Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson and said, “He is a very promising candidate.”

The interview called Ramaswamy, 37, the youngest Republican presidential candidate in the US.

Ramaswamy, a tech entrepreneur, was born in Ohio to Indian parents from the southern state of Kerala, and studied at Harvard and Yale universities. He used to visit the Indian state frequently in the past.

Musk’s praise for Ramaswamy also comes in the wake of the Republican leader calling out the former’s closeness with Chinese ministers after the Tesla chief visited the Asian country which is currently having a strained relationship with the US.

Musk, who also met the foreign minister of China, had said that he would expand his business in the country while lauding Beijing’s “vitality and promise”.

In an X post in June, Ramaswamy had accused China of using prominent American business leaders and celebrities as “puppets to advance their agenda”.

“It’s deeply concerning that Elon Musk met with China’s foreign minister yesterday to oppose decoupling and referred to the U.S. & Communist China as “conjoined twins.” Tesla’s VP in China reposted that statement on Weibo in China, but curiously not here in the US,” the Indian-American had said.

Musk has backed GOP presidential candidates in the past as well. He once supported Ron DeSantis, a rival to former president Donald Trump who used a Twitter Space event to declare his presidential candidacy.

Ramaswamy is one of the three Indian-Americans who are contesting Trump for the top job, the other two being former US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley and Hirsh Vardhan Singh, who is also an engineer.
