India most stable nation now, says US-India forum chief Mukesh Aghi

As against the case in India, an uncertainty is prevailing in the US, the USISPF chief said in an exclusive interview.

INDIA’S leadership has gained the world’s confidence in recent years and it is being praised as the most stable nation from the perspective of political risk, US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) president and CEO Mukesh Aghi has said.

Speaking exclusively with India’s NDTV, he threw light on the changing dynamics of global politics and how the US is now considered as a country with significant political risk.

“Well, we should talk about country risk analysis, especially political risk, and India used to always come up there as a political risk country,” Aghi said in the interview, emphasising the historical perception of the South Asian nation’s political landscape.

“For the first time, I’m saying India is coming as the most stable country from a political risk perspective,” he was quoted as saying.

Aghi also spoke about an uncertainty prevailing in the US, saying, “US is the other extreme now. We have no idea what’s going to happen in the US. President Trump could come back, or President Biden could be elected, or Nikki Haley could be there.”

Both India and the US are headed for national elections this year.

The USISPF chief also stressed on the volatile nature of the US’s political situation.

According to him, the world is in a state of flux, with nearly half of the population set to cast ballots in various countries besides India and the US, such as Russia, Indonesia and Pakistan.

“I think overall, what we’re seeing, the world is in a flux. Almost 50% of the population is going to vote, all the way from US, India, to Russia, to Indonesia, Pakistan itself. We see a change happening. I think for the first time after the Second World War, what we’re seeing is there’s a shift in the balance of power,” Aghi told the news channel.

He expressed optimism about India’s role in the evolving scenario, saying countries such as India are becoming more assertive and economically strong.

“Countries like India are coming out much more assertive, much more, I call, opulent from the perspective of economic growth,” he said.

“In every aspect, you’re seeing India rising. You have a leadership which has the confidence, which tends to permeate the confidence in the population,” Aghi said in the interview.

Formed in 2017, the USISPF aims to bridge the gap between business and government and promote closer public-private sector partnerships across the economy and society both in the US and India.

“In every aspect, you’re seeing India rising. You have a leadership which has the confidence, which tends to permeate the confidence in the population,” the US-India Partnership Forum head said.
