Madhya Pradesh: Angry villagers refuse to release crocodile that swallowed boy, say it must spew him out

IN a horrific incident of man-animal conflict, a 10-year-old boy was swallowed by a crocodile which was then dragged out of water by the family and relatives of the victim with sticks, rope and net and refused to release the reptile till it spewed out the child which they believed was still alive, India Today reported.

The tragedy happened in the Chambal River in Sheopur in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh on Monday (11).

According to the report, the crocodile attacked the boy when he went into the river when the crocodile attacked him and dragged the prey deep into the river.

Local witnesses then informed the boy’s family about the incident and they then arrived on the spot to catch the crocodile and brought it out of the river.

Meanwhile, officials from the alligator department and local police reached the situation on receiving information. They tried to free the crocodile from the villagers but they did not agree till Monday evening. The boy’s family hoped that the child would still be alive in the reptile’s stomach and said that they would release it only after it spewed him out.

A local police officer named Shyam Veer Singh Tomar told India Today, “The boy went deep into the river while bathing. The villagers said that the child had been swallowed by a crocodile. Then they caught the crocodile using a net and sticks. The alligator department has started action in the matter.”
