A recent city council meeting in Frisco has gained attention online after Indian-American activist Neha Suratran strongly responded to anti-India comments. The discussion focused on the H-1B visa program and concerns about Indian professionals in the United States.
During the meeting, Suratran addressed claims that Indian workers are a “threat” to local communities. She responded with data and clear arguments. “Statistically, the Indian community is associated with higher education, higher income, and lower crime rates. So if a group is associated with safer communities, stronger schools, and higher economic contribution, why are we afraid?” she said.
She continued by explaining that such contributions should be seen positively. “If your goal is for your children to grow up in safe neighborhoods, high-performing schools, stable communities, then this is not something to fear, this is something to welcome.”
Suratran also spoke about cultural identity and addressed concerns about religion. She said, “Let me be clear about cultural visibility, we also celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas. We are not forcing religion onto you. Hinduism does not convert. Everybody goes to heaven, as long as you're a good person.”
A video of her speech, shared on social media platform X, quickly went viral. Many users supported her statements and praised her response.
Several people highlighted the values she spoke about, including coexistence and mutual respect. One user wrote that mutual respect is the foundation of any society and appreciated how Indian values were being represented. Another user pointed out that Indians in the United States contribute to many fields like healthcare, technology, and engineering, and often adapt well to American society.
Others also shared similar views, saying that inclusivity and respect help build stronger communities. Some comments emphasized that Indian communities abroad focus on contributing positively while maintaining their cultural values.
The discussion around H-1B visas often leads to strong opinions, both online and offline. Suratran’s remarks have added a new perspective to this ongoing debate, focusing on facts, community contributions, and shared values.
