In a car accident, Prahlad Modi, the younger brother of Indian prime minister Narendra Modi, was injured in a car accident near Mysuru in the southern Indian state of Karnataka on Tuesday (27) afternoon.
The 69-year-old Modi was travelling with his wife, son, daughter-in-law, and grandson to Bandipur in the state in a Mercedes Benz sports utility vehicle when it rammed into a divider. Modi and his family were accompanied by a convoy.
The incident happened around 2 pm.
Visuals from the spot showed the car severely damaged in the accident.
Police, however, said that while the vehicle hit the median, it "wasn't speeding".
Seema Latkar, Mysuru superintendent of police, told NDTV: "Five members were travelling in a Mercedes-Benz. The driver wasn't speeding, however, he lost control and hit the median. The area where the accident took place is not a busy junction and the maximum travel speed is 40-50km per hour."
Modi's grandson suffered a fractured leg while others were admitted to Mysru's JSS Hospital with minor injuries.
"The child has suffered a fracture. No one has suffered life-threatening injuries. Everyone's out of danger," Dr Madhu, JSS medical superintendent, said.
In September, one of India's prominent businessmen Cyrus Mystry was killed after the Mercedes he was travelling in had crashed into a road divider on Ahmedabad-Mumbai national highway in the western state of Maharashtra at a high speed.
