SHAHID KAPOOR, who is set to star in the upcoming film “Deva”, revealed on Tuesday that his character in the movie is quite different from his role in “Kabir Singh”.

Kapoor, known for his intense portrayal of the titular character in Kabir Singh, clarified that the two roles are not comparable.

He explained that while both characters are aggressive, his portrayal of Deva is distinct.

“It’s an aggressive character but ‘Deva’ is very Deva, there is no Kabir Singh in it. Deva is also not like any other character… Till ‘Kabir Singh’ people said, ‘Oh! Is he like Tommy Singh in ‘Udta Punjab’?” Kapoor remarked during a promotional event for the film.

While “Kabir Singh” was a Hindi remake of the Telugu film “Arjun Reddy” and became one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of 2019, “Deva” features Kapoor as a brilliant yet defiant police officer, a character he describes as unique.

Pooja Hegde stars alongside Kapoor as a journalist, and both characters share a level of aggression.

Kapoor further quipped that a hypothetical fight between Deva and Kabir Singh could never happen, given that he played both roles.

Hegde also shared her experience working with Kapoor during the film’s promotions, calling him a “good therapist.” She recalled a conversation they had while traveling to a venue, where Kapoor shared life and career insights that she found inspiring.

Discussing her role in “Deva”, Hegde said she is focused on choosing roles that resonate with her. “Sometimes you want to work with the filmmaker, sometimes you like the character… I have decided to do roles that make my soul happy as an actor. In ‘Deva’ I really liked the character,” she shared.

Kapoor also teased a connection between “Deva” and the 1975 classic “Deewaar”. He hinted that there is relevance between Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic character, Vijay, and his own role in the film. The teaser poster for Deva featured Kapoor smoking a cigarette in front of a mural of Bachchan’s character.

When asked about the connection between the two films, Kapoor explained, “This question should be for Rosshan (the director) because he was the one who chose that (visual). (But) There is a relevance (of Bachchan’s ‘Deewaar’ character) within the film.”

The 1975 classic Deewaar, directed by Yash Chopra, is considered one of the best films in Hindi cinema. It tells the story of two brothers, Vijay and Ravi, who follow different paths as they grow up—one turning to crime and the other becoming a police officer.

Kapoor, who grew up idolising Bachchan, expressed his admiration for the legendary actor, saying, “A performance in a film like that makes every actor feel humble. Talking about Amit ji we have all grown up watching him, we have idolized him as a star.”

“Deva”, directed by Rosshan Andrrews, is an action-packed thriller that promises high drama. Andrrews is a big name in the Malayalam film industry and “Deva” is his first Hindi film.

The film, produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur’s Roy Kapur Films in collaboration with Zee Studios, is set to release on January 31.
