Ten Indians were stuck in remote parts of Turkey, which was rocked by a deadly earthquake on Monday (6) along with northern neighbour Syria, but there were concerns over their safety, India’s ministry of external affairs (MEA) said on Wednesday (8).

One Indian has gone missing and the ministry was in touch with the person’s family, Sanjay Verma, the MEA’s secretary, west, informed. The person reportedly works in a company in Bengaluru which sent him to Turkey on an official trip.

“We set up a control room in Turkey’s Adana. 10 Indians are stuck in remote parts of affected areas but they are safe. One Indian National who was on a business visit is missing. We’re in touch with his family and the company in Bengaluru which employs him,” Verma was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

India has sent relief materials to Turkey in four military transport aircraft. The death toll in the two countries has gone past 11,000.
