DOLLY Chaiwala is already an Internet sensation for his unique style in preparing tea and displaying stylish outfits. But the ‘famous’ roadside tea-seller became even more famous among netizens when he served the beverage to none other than Bill Gates and said later that he did not recognise the latter until seeing a viral clip on social media.

The tea-seller from the central Indian city of Nagpur, who is also called ‘Jack Sparrow of India’ for his style, told news agency Asian News International in Hindi that he was doing his daily work and did not have an iota of idea who his customer was. “Agle din pata chala maine kisko chai pilaya (I came to learn about him the next day),” he said.

Dolly also said that he did not have any conversation with the co-founder of Microsoft and was busy doing his work.

“After sipping on my tea, he (Bill Gates) said, ‘Wow, Dolly ki Chai’ (Wow! It’s Dolly’s tea)”, he added.

“I’m excited to be back in India, home to incredible innovators working on new ways to save and improve lives and even make a special cup of tea,” the text in the video says. The video concludes with the tech entrepreneur hoping for discussions over tea while standing beside Dolly.

Reacting to the meeting between Gates and Dolly, Indian food-delivery company Zomato wrote on X, “Upto 60% off on chai even for Bill Gates (sic).”

The tea seller, who often steals the headlines with his style and antics while making and serving tea, has a dream of selling tea to Modi. Dolly, who says he has not adopted his style but only copied it from South Indian films that he watches, wants to sell the beverage with a smile all his life and receive the smile back.
