WITH India’s outbound shipments set to cross $400 billion in the current fiscal, the country’s commerce ministry is thinking of launching Brand India Campaign to give a momentum to exports of services and products in new markets, an official source said.

The campaign would be an “umbrella campaign” for promoting goods and services that India exports, the source added.

In the initial stage, the campaign would emphasise on Indian exports in specific sectors such as gems and jewellery, textiles, plantation products (tea, coffee, spices), education, healthcare, pharma and engineering. It would also focus on quality, heritage, technology, value and innovation, the Press Trust of India reported.

Indian commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal recently reviewed the status of Brand India Campaign of India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), New Delhi.

The IBEF is a trust set by the commerce department with the primary goal of promoting and creating international awareness of the ‘Made in India’ label in markets overseas and to facilitate dissemination of knowledge of products and services made in the country.

“The need for such a uniform campaign is necessary because at present, different sectors have been promoted with individual identities in different ways,” the official told PTI.

The campaign approach would include focused export-oriented messaging to both buyers and consumers, new potential markets, Indian talent, tradition and modernity and promotional events through digital channels and global events.
