Bollywood has dozens of stylists, a handful of go-to designers, and one trainer nearly everyone seems to share. Her name is Yasmin Karachiwala, and if an actress has ever been asked how she got in shape for a film, there's a decent chance the honest answer is: Yasmin.
From a spare room to India's first Pilates studio
Karachiwala didn't start out training celebrities. She got her first fitness certification in 1991, teaching step classes through the American Council on Exercise. It took over a decade, and a trip to the US to study Pilates, before she became India's first BASI-certified Pilates instructor. She started small, working out of a spare room in her own home before expanding into part of her terrace.
That home setup eventually became Yasmin's Body Image, the studio she opened in Bandra in 2015. It didn't stay small for long. The brand now has locations across Mumbai, plus outposts in Delhi, Dubai, and Dhaka.
The client list reads like a Bollywood premiere
Ask around Bollywood and the same name keeps coming up. Karachiwala's clients have included:
- Deepika Padukone
- Alia Bhatt
- Katrina Kaif
- Kareena Kapoor Khan
- Kriti Sanon
- Preity Zinta
- Bipasha Basu
- Nora Fatehi
- Vaani Kapoor
- Ananya Panday
- Hrithik Roshan
- Hardik Pandya
That's most of a generation of leading actresses, plus a cricketer and a Bollywood heavyweight or two, all working with the same trainer. It's rare for one person to have that much influence over how an entire industry looks on screen.
What does it actually cost to train like a movie star?
This is the part fans always want to know. According to a Times Now report, Karachiwala charges stars like Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt somewhere in the range of ₹45,000 for her sessions — a figure that puts the "get fit like a Bollywood star" fantasy firmly out of reach for most people, and part of why her client roster carries so much weight.
She's not precious about the "celebrity trainer" label
For someone with that kind of client list, Karachiwala talks about her work in fairly grounded terms. In past interviews, she's described fitness simply as something everyone owes themselves, not a luxury reserved for the famous. She's also been open that she wasn't naturally athletic growing up. By her own account, she didn't set foot in a gym until she was 18.
The common thread
Padukone, Bhatt, and Kaif are three of the most searched names in Indian entertainment. All three built at least part of their on-screen physiques under the same roof, with the same trainer, on the same reformer machines. Next time one of them turns up camera-ready for a new film, there's a good chance the credit belongs to the woman standing just off set with a stopwatch, not the film's costume department.
