INDIAN prime minister Narendra Modi, who embarked on a two-day visit to France on Thursday (3), aims to enhance the bilateral relationship between New Delhi and Paris, with a particular focus on defense and space collaboration.
Prior to his departure, Modi expressed his intention to engage in comprehensive discussions with French president Emmanuel Macron, further cementing the enduring and successful partnership between the two nations. In a tweet, he said, "I look forward to productive discussions with president Emmanuel Macron and other French dignitaries."
Modi will attend France's Bastille Day Parade celebrations in Paris on Friday (14).
In a statement, the prime minister said, "This year marks the 25th anniversary of our strategic partnership. Rooted in deep trust and commitment, our two countries cooperate closely across various domains including defence, space, civil nuclear, blue economy, trade, investment, education, culture and people to people ties. We also work together on regional and global issues,."
Anticipating his meeting with Macron, Modi expressed his eagerness to discuss the future trajectory of the "longstanding and time-tested partnership" over the next 25 years.
The visit presents an opportune moment to further strengthen the existing ties and explore new avenues for collaboration.
A 269-member tri-services contingent from India will join the Bastille Day Parade, showcasing the strong military cooperation between the two nations. The Indian Air Force (IAF) will be represented by three Rafale fighter jets, which will take part in the flypast alongside their French counterparts, symbolising the shared defense capabilities and mutual trust between India and France.
