Telugu actor Rashmika Mandanna, who recently rose to fame in Bollywood, delivered a striking fashion moment at Swarovski’s Diwali celebration, pairing the structure of a Western-inspired corset with the richness of a Banarasi-inspired drape. Dressed in a custom Swarovski x Amit Aggarwal ensemble, the actor showed how two distinct design traditions can come together to create a contemporary festive look.

The midnight-blue outfit stood out for its contrast of sculptural detailing, crystal embellishment and fluid fabric. A strapless, sweetheart-neckline bodice formed the centerpiece, while a floor-length skirt and gold-bordered drape introduced movement and an Indian-inspired finish.

As Swarovski’s India brand ambassador, Rashmika embraced a look that went beyond conventional festive sparkle. The ensemble combined the precision of modern occasion wear with the visual richness associated with traditional Indian textiles.

A Western-inspired corset takes center stage

The most dramatic feature was the strapless bodice, covered in Swarovski crystals arranged in a geometric, chevron-like pattern. The embellishment caught the light against the deep blue base, creating a dimensional effect without relying on a bright color palette.

The fitted silhouette gave the upper half of the outfit a defined, sculptural shape. In contrast, the skirt fell in soft folds, with gentle gathers at the waist adding movement and preventing the ensemble from feeling too rigid.

Corsetry has a long history in Western fashion. Structured bodices and garments known as stays became prominent in European dress during the 16th century, when they were used to shape and support the torso. Their silhouettes changed over the centuries, eventually inspiring modern designers to reinterpret corset construction as a visible feature of dresses, tops and eveningwear.

Rashmika’s look draws on that contemporary approach, using the corset as a statement piece rather than a hidden foundation garment. The crystal-covered bodice brings drama and definition, while the flowing skirt softens its structured lines.

The Banarasi-inspired drape adds Indian richness

The outfit’s defining contrast came from the drape worn over Rashmika’s arms. Finished with intricate gold embroidered borders, the pallu-like element evoked the richness of traditional Indian textiles while retaining the unconventional construction of a modern saree-gown.

Banarasi textiles are associated with Varanasi’s celebrated silk-weaving tradition, known for elaborate brocade patterns and the use of zari, or metallic thread. The craft has evolved over centuries, with Persian influences contributing to the development of brocade weaving during the Mughal era.

Rather than wearing a conventional Banarasi saree, Rashmika’s ensemble incorporated a Banarasi-inspired detail into a Western-influenced silhouette. The gold borders brought warmth to the cool midnight-blue palette and created a visual connection between the drape and the crystal-studded bodice.

The result was a blend of traditional textile references and contemporary construction, without either element overwhelming the other.

Jewellery and beauty complete the look

Rashmika kept the accessories within the same high-shine aesthetic, wearing layered delicate necklaces, including a Y-drop pendant, along with ear cuffs, cocktail rings and stacked bracelets. The jewellery echoed the crystals on the bodice while allowing the outfit to remain the main attraction.

Her long, straight hair was styled with a center part, while brown eyeshadow, pink blush and nude-brown lipstick kept the makeup understated.

The overall effect came from the balance between structure and softness, Western-inspired corsetry and Indian-inspired draping. With its midnight-blue crystals, flowing skirt and gold-bordered finish, Rashmika’s Diwali ensemble offered a contemporary interpretation of festive dressing that brought two distinct fashion influences together in one statement look.
