Rakul Preet Singh has hit back at reports linking her to recent Income Tax searches, calling the claims “false, malicious and speculative” and saying the search was not related to her.

The Income Tax Department reportedly conducted searches at 12 locations in Mumbai on September 28 as part of an investigation into suspected fund irregularities. According to reports, investigators are examining alleged overseas transactions connected to film financing.

Almost a week after the searches, Rakul issued a public statement addressing the reports and asked media outlets to correct what she described as inaccurate claims.

Rakul said the Income Tax search was not connected to her and stressed that she has always complied with her tax obligations.

She said she comes from an Armed Forces background and had no “Godfather” in the film industry, adding that she built her career through hard work. She also said she has been paying her taxes since she was 20.

The actor strongly denied being involved in illegal foreign remittances, either personally or on behalf of any production house. She also rejected claims that she holds benami property for anyone in India or abroad.

Rakul further said that she has never been gifted property and does not accept expensive gifts as a matter of principle.

Rakul criticised media outlets that published reports linking her to the searches and urged them to retract the claims and clarify the facts.

She acknowledged that media organisations face commercial pressures but argued that those pressures should not come at the expense of accuracy or a person's reputation and livelihood.

Her statement comes as the Income Tax Department continues to examine financial records and alleged overseas transactions connected to the wider investigation. Rakul was most recently seen in Pati Patni Aur Woh Do. She is also part of Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, in which she plays Shurpanakha, the sister of Ravana.

The film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash in the lead roles.
