1st Test: SA struggle as India set hosts target of 305

THE first Test match between South Africa and India remained an engaging content despite an entire day getting washed out by rain and at the end of Day 4, the visiting team will be the more relaxed lot as it knocked off four wickets of the hosts for less than 100 runs while defending a target of 305.

In a see-saw battle on a day that saw the fall of 13 wickets, the Proteas lost two quick wickets towards the end of the day that pegged them back a little.
Captain Dean Elgar was batting on 52 and he will be joined by Temba Bavuma, who scored a fifty in the first innings, on the final day which has forecast of rain. The hosts were 94 for 4 at stumps, requiring another 211 runs in 108.1 overs to take 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Jasprit Bumrah, who suffered an injury during bowling in the first innings, picked the wickets of Rassie van der Dussen (11) and nightwatchman Keshav Maharaj (8) to put South Africa in a spot after they were placed at 74 for 2. Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj picked one wicket each.

KL Rahul belts Boxing Day ton vs South Africa

Earlier in the day, India witnessed a batting collapse after they resumed from their overnight score of 16 for 1 with KL Rahul (23) and nightwatchman Shardul Thakur (10) coming out in the middle. Rahul departed first and India soon slumped to 111 for 6. Wicket-keeper-batter Rishabh Pant’s 34 off as many balls and Ravichandran Ashwin’s 14 gave the Indian innings some push and they were all out for 174.

Fast bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen took four wickets each while Lungi Ngidi took two to end with a match haul of eight wickets, thanks to his six-wicket haul in the first innings.
